How much do you charge?

Charges are on a per-hour basis according to the room/space you require. There is a minimum 2-hour charge and you are allowed a 30 minute period before and after your booking period for setting up/clearing away. If you require more than 30 minutes then that must be included in your booked time. The current charges are:

Is the Centre licenced?

The Centre has a Premises Licence issued by Mid Devon District Council, a copy of which is displayed in the Centre.

  • The licence covers:
  • Performance of a play
  • Performance of live music (N.B. we do not allow discos)
  • Playing of recorded music
  • Performance of dance
  • Supply of alcohol

What furniture do you have?

There are 26 trestle tables, 8 card tables, 6 other small tables, 170 chairs.

How many rooms do you have?

There are 3 rooms divided by acoustic walls that can be “re-designed” as either one or two rooms. See this page for more information.

Do you have kitchen facilities?

We have a “servery”, or bar, area that is suitable for teas/coffees, equipped with two wall-mounted boilers providing constant hot water. There is also a commercial standard kitchen, with 2 range cookers, dishwasher, microwave, fridge. Both areas are fully equipped with crockery, cutlery etc. capable of providing for 150 people. Do you provide catering?

We do not provide catering. The Centre and it’s facilities are designed as a “self-help” building. We can provide contact details for local caterers if required.

If you are self-catering you are responsible for complying with Food Hygiene regulations – see “A Code For Food Handlers”.

Is the Centre ventilated?

Yes, there are 6 Velux roof windows, remotely operated and fitted with black-out blinds also remotely operated. Clerestory windows between concourse and rooms are fitted with remotely operated blinds.

Is the Centre “disabled-friendly”?

The Centre is on one level, no steps on entry. There is a toilet for disabled persons and parking immediately outside.

Is there car parking?

The two spaces immediately outside the Centre are for off-loading and for parking for the disabled. There is a FREE car park for up to 50 cars within 100m.

Is there a WiFi connection?

Yes, free connection details are displayed in the office window including a QR code.

Do you have a PA system?

All rooms are fitted with speakers for our sound system that can be operational in selected areas. There are two lapel (radio) microphones and one hand-held microphone. There is an extra charge of £5 per half day for use of the system.

Is there a loop system for the hard of hearing?

The above PA system incorporates a loop.

What audio/visual equipment do you have?

There is a projector that can be hired (£5 extra charge) for use with hirer’s computer equipment, and two speakers. There is a large drop-down screen on the end wall of the largest room.

Do we have to collect a key?

Unless otherwise agreed a committee member will “meet and greet” and show the hirer around the facilities. Similarly we close at the end of the hire.

Is music allowed?

The Centre is located close to residential properties. For that reason we are aware of noise pollution. Amplified music (e.g. discos) is not allowed but acoustic music and recorded music are both acceptable.

Is a bouncy castle allowed for children’s parties?

Yes but we have to charge £5 to cover the cost of electricity powering the castle.

What insurance does the Centre have?

Employers’ Liability and Public/Products Liability each to a limit of £10,000,000. A wide range of other risks are covered including accidents caused by negligence on our part. Accidents due to negligence by the hirers are not covered. See here for further information.

Do you allow any free “access” time for setting up?

Yes, an allowance of 45 minutes is allowed prior to your event starting and a further 45 minutes for clearing away afterwards. For events involving catering (e.g. funeral wakes, receptions) longer may be allowed subject to negotiation.

Are there any alarms/fire regulations?

An intruder alarm is fitted to the office area only. There are two manually-operated “Evacuator” alarms for use in case of fire. Evacuation procedures are posted by the noticeboard at the entrance.

Do you have a risk analysis available?

Yes, navigate to “Policies” under “Booking Services”. You may need to create your own analysis relevant to your specific event.
